Yeshua, the Rock and Miriam

1 Corinthians 10:4 -- And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Exodus 17:5-6 -- And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Numbers 20:1-12 -- Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Aaron was a priest. (Exodus 28:1 - And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.)

Miriam was a prophetess. (Exodus 15:20 - And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.)

Moses was the Israelite leader, which, in effect, made him king. (Isaiah 63:12 - That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?)

Each of these three brothers and sisters were a picture of Yeshua.

He is a priest. (Hebrews 9:11 - But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building.)

He is a prophet. (John 6:14 - Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.)

He is a king. (Revelation 19:16 - And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

The prophet is what He was on earth, as it is written above, “This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.”

The priest is what He became when He died. Hebrews 9:12 - Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us, Hebrews 12:24 - And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

When He returns to collect His church, He will be king. (John 18:36 - Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.)

So Miriam represented Yeshua’s life here on this earth, as He came to tell the good new. Aaron represented Yeshua’s life, where He is now, in Heaven, mediating for us, and Moses represented Yeshua’s life in the hereafter, when He will rule over us.

With all that being said, we cannot turn our attention to Miriam. When she died, the water stopped running from the rock, and we recollect from 1 Corinthians 10:4 that Yeshua was that rock. So what we have here is a picture of Miriam dying, and the rock, she represented, Yeshua, dying at the same time. What is even more significant is that Miriam died on the 10th of Nissan.* Yeshua did not die on the 10th of Nissan, but on the 14th, however, on the 10th is when He rode into Jerusalem on the donkey and was examined for four days, thus, in effect, beginning the end of His life.

What’s more, since Yeshua represented the rock, and YHWH had instructed Moses to strike it once (Exodus 17:6 - Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it that the people may drink) why was He told the second time to speak to the rock (Numbers 20:8 - Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink) and why did Moses disobey and smote the rock again (Numbers 20:11 - And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also) and why did YHWH become angry and forbid Moses and Aaron from entering the promised land (Numbers 20:12 - And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them)?

Since Yeshua was the rock, He was only suppose to be broken once, but Moses, being angry at the aggrevation of the crowd, and grieved by the death of his sister, disobeyed and struck the rock twice, thereby, in symbolism, breaking Yeshua twice, and that is why YHWH became upset and punished Moses and Aaron from ever seeing the promised land.
